I just can't stop shooting soccer. For about a dozen years I attended and photographed hundreds of soccer matches for AYSO, club teams and Newbury Park High School. Now that my boys are done playing soccer, I thought I was done. Wrong. For the second season in a row I found myself helping the Newbury Park High School Soccer program by shooting a few matches.
Just for the fun of it, yesterday I selected 48 image from about 2500 posted and made the best of 2011-2012 Dot Photo album.

Newbury Park 2nd in Strawberry Cup

The U-19 Newbury Park Boys all star team played this last weekend in the Strawberry Cup soccer tournament held at the new fields in Camarillo. They took second place losing to Camarillo 3-2 on pks after playing to a 0-0 tie.

Only Four Matches

Just another old fashion soccer weekend with four matches to shoot. Only difference is now soccer weekends are few and far between. The Newbury Park Boys U19 AYSO team played in the Pot O’ Gold Tournament in Thousand Oaks. They went 2-1-1 and finished fourth.

NPHS Loses in CIF 2nd Round

Today was fun, but sad. I took the day off to shoot the Newbury Park High School Varsity Boys soccer play in the 2nd round of CIF playoffs. But they lost 0-1 to Esperanza HS. I had two boys go through the NPHS soccer program and after six years of countless matches, I skipped this season. But several friends and parents asked me to shoot. So I relented and did. Maybe if I only promised to shoot the CIF Finals......

Newbury Park Takes Second Place

The Newbury Park Boys AYSO U19 B team took second place Sunday at the Area 10 playoffs in Bakersfield. On Saturday they won all three matches 1-0,1-0 and 4-0. On Sunday they beat Agoura 2-0 in overtime. In the championship game they lost 2-1 to Woodland Hills.

Sunday was a two for one match special. The Newbury Park Boys AYSO U19 B team was playing against Malibu. On the very next field was the A team. I just set up in between the two fields and shot images of the A game during breaks in the B game. In addition, about half of the Malibu team were Newbury Park players loaned to Malibu for the season. (NP had too many sign up, Malibu not enough so a combined team was formed.) So this was actually and two and one half for one special match. I edited down the 550 frames to about 110.

Last night the Newbury Park U19 Boys B team beat the A team 1-0. A couple players, above, celebrate the one goal. During the next couple months I will be covering some of the B team matches - son on team. Looks like the last go-around with soccer for the family. Some 12 years of AYSO, club and high school soccer is nearly at a end.

Newbury Park High School boys varsity soccer team lost Wednesday 1-0 to St. Francis in the CIF 2nd round playoffs. Yes it was a major bummer. St. Francis scored on a corner kick with four minutes left in the match.
Still, this was a very successful year for the NPHS soccer team. They had to overcome several key injuries, rebounded to win 3 of their last 4 league matches and was the only Marmonte League team to advance past the first round. I am very proud of this team.

Good News. Newbury Park High School Boys Varsity Soccer team won tonight, ended up in 3rd place and will advance to the CIF playoffs. After losing Tuesday night to Thousand Oaks 1-0, they had to win to ensure playing next week. They beat Royal this evening. Well here are the dotphoto albums for photos from Tuesday evening. I worked tonight and was not able to shoot the big match.

Tuesday night the Newbury Park High School Boys
soccer teams won all three matches against Simi
Valley High School. The Frosh Soph won 2-0. The JV
won 1-0 on a goal in the last minute of play. Best of
all was the Varsity, overcoming the loss of both
Varsity goalies and a couple key starters, they beat
first place Simi Valley 2-1.
Tonight, the Varsity followed up Tueday's win with a 3-0 win at Calabasas. I was at work and missed tonight's match.

Monday I shot these two images of Newbury Park Frosh Soph player Alex Sosa taking a tumble after trying to kick the ball. The NPHS boys Frosh Soph beat Royal 2-1. The JV won 1-0, but the Varsity lost 2-3.

Wednesday's soccer action was Newbury Park High School Boys against Calabasas High. The NPHS Frosh Soph and JV teams won 2-0. The NPHS Varsity had a 2-0 lead, but Calabasas staged a great comeback to tie the score 2-2.

Welcome to 2009. Saturday was the Newbury Park High School annual soccer alumni games. The girls played in the early afternoon, so I was able to shoot part of their match, then off to work. I was not able to cover the boys match.

Newbury Park High School Varsity player Eric Muller (8) is normally a defender, but moves up to the net on corner and free kicks. On Friday, he scored a header, and celebrated big time. On Saturday he again scored and again celebrated big time, losing his shirt and receiving a yellow card.
The newest DotPhoto album is from boys Varsity matches Friday against Beverly Hills, won 4-0, and Saturday against Agoura, lost 3-2.

The Newbury Park U19 Boys B team wins the AYSO Section 10 regionals in Bakersfield this last weekend. Dotphoto Album. The team went 3-1-1 for the weekend. The finals against Ojai ended in a 1-1 tie with Newbury Park winning on PKs. Saturday scores were 4-0, 2-0 and 1-2. Sunday Newbury Park won the semifinals 4-0.

Two Soccer Games

Last night I photographed two Newbury ParkAYSO boys U19 matches. The U19 B team won 5-2, above. The U19C team, below, lost 3-2. For part of the U19C team, I played with a slow 1/30th shutter speed at ISO 100, panning while making exposures. There are 99 images in this dotphoto album.
PS - On the Dotphoto Links page I still have links to last season's soccer, including Newbury Park High School's run to the CIF Finals. With online storage dropping rapidly in price, I am able to keep the photos posted longer. Enjoy.
The Coaches Are Coming

On Sunday the coaches meet with AYSO staff and received housing assignments.
The British Coaching staff for the Major League Soccer summer soccer camp arrived in Newbury Park. This year our old soccer friends called and asked us to host two coaches for the week. My boys attended the summer camp over five years ago and we hosted coaches a twice back then.
Being soccer, I did not need an excuse to go this morning, shoot the first day of camp and put up a photo album.
The camp is co-hosted by the MLS and AYSO Region 42. Dot photo album.
On Sunday the coaches meet with AYSO staff and received housing assignments.

NPHS Season Ends in CIF Regionals

The Newbury Park High School Varsity Soccer season
ended Tuesday in a tough 1-2 loss to Santa Monica
High School. After falling behind 0-1 at half time,
NPHS dominated the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half
and tied the score 1-1. Included in the comeback was
a save on a Santa Monica PK by NPHS goalie Troy
Williams that left Santa Monica players and fans
shaking their heads. To Santa Monica's credit, they
came back and scored the winning goal.
I overheard several Santa Monica HS fans and school officals saying this was the toughest game of the year for the 26-0 team that is rated #2 nationally. Frankly I was much more impressed by Santa Margarita last Saturday in the CIF Division 1 playoff finals. Santa Monica won the Division 4 finals, but acted susprised by how tough a CIF Division 1 team plays. Too bad Santa Margarita is playing in the CIF Regionals Division 2. Santa Monica was given a gitt. Santa Margarita has a much better defense and would beat Santa Monica.

Newbury Park High School Boys Varsity soccer team
wins its CIF Semi Final match 1-0 in overtime. Goal
was scored on a header by Junior Nick Harrison. (Yes
- he is my son). I will admit I was so excited by the
play, I forgot to take photos! I did get a couple
reaction photos to the goal. Nick is on the left of
this photo from after the game. I uploaded over 100

The Newbury Park High School Boys Varsity soccer team
won their quarterfinal CIF playoff match 1-0.
I was able to shoot the entire game and posted over 100 images. Thanks to NPHS staff for doing the video! I am breaking my tradition and putting up three photos before the dotphoto link. Enjoy! It was a great match by both teams.

I found this sign in my front yard as I left for work Friday. The Newbury Park High School Boys Varsity Soccer team won an exciting game (by all accounts) on pks. Esperanza and NPHS were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation. After two overtime and two sudden death periods they went to pks. NPHS players scored all four pks while the NPHS goalie blocked one and another Esperanza kick was wide. Sorry I missed this one!

Then the co-worker who usually could cover for me had to attend a funeral for his sister this week. With a touch of the flu thrown in, I was ready for good news last night. The NPHS soccer team came through!

Soccer and Power Outages

The boys games on Wednesday, January 9th, were
cancelled because Simi Valley High School was without
power. They entire campus was black. Newbury Park
High School was also having its own outage - one of
the four lighting towers at the stadium was out. It
went out during Monday's games, but the stadium was
still used on Monday and Wednesday for soccer. I
suspect last weekend's heavy rains was the cause.
Wednesday night I took some photos from the well lite half of the stadium. The girls varsity tied 1-1 against Simi Valley. Enjoy.

Sunsets and Soccer

Monday while shooting soccer at Newbury Park High
School, I went to the east end of the field and shot
a few frames of the sunset over the stadium.
Of course, during the sunset shoot the Newbury Park High School Junior Varsity gilrs scored this goal.
Tech notes: I shot the sunset with ISO set to 200 and the digital files saved in RAW format. Once in photoshop I made two copies of this image, one for the sky and one for the field, and merged using layers and a mask.

weekend tournament in Bakersfield. I was able to
shoot the first game on Saturday morning before off

AYSO Area 10E Boys U19 Champions

The Newbury Park AYSO U19 Boys A team won the area
10E championship 4-0 against the NP boys U19B team.
The A team is coached by Steve McDaniel. The team is
undefeated in regular season and the playoffs. Their
only tie was against with the NP B team. The A team
goes to the Section 10 Playoffs next weekend in
Bakersfield. The NP B team was 2nd in both the
regular season and during the tournament. The B team
is coached by Eric Bordagaray.

The Newbury Park U19 Boys A team finished the season
6-0-1. On Sunday they beat Simi Valley 7-1 in the
first round of the playoff tournament. I posted about

Saturday the Newbury Park boys AYSO U19 A team played
a day game. I was able to get 80 good photos from the
match, unlike to 20 or so images from their night
matches. The game was against Malibu next to the
ocean- great spot. NP won 2-1. Enjoy. scott.

Alliance vs Camarillo Eagles

The Newbury Park Soccer Club U17 Alliance began the
fall season with a tough 2-0 win over the Camarillo
Eagles.
More and more I am using Photoshop Lightroom to prep the images. It's a time saver. I am able to quickly archive and apply global corrections to the images, Then I am able to output a complete web gallery - link below the photo.
Photos shot at 1/1600th a second, ISO 200 with a 300mm f/4 lens. Enjoy.

Wednesday night was the start of the fall soccer
season. The two Newbury Park AYSO U19 boys teams
played each other to a 2-2 tie. Many of the players
have been together for over ten years through AYSO,
club and high school teams. Was fun to watch.
The game was played under the lights at a local park - a challenge to shoot. I was able to shoot at 1/160th a second at f/2.8 at 800iso. I shot raw format and used an 80-200 zoom lens. Only about one-third of the field is lit. The light on the rest of the field falls off rapidly.
I shoot raw as much as possible. For night sports I get about a one-stop increase in quality. Anyway, here is a photo gallery from last nite.

I was only able to shoot one of three Alliance
matches this last weekend during the El Camino Real
Thousand Oaks Classic soccer tournament. The Alliance
won two and lost one during the tournament.

The Alliance U17 Boys soccer team played in a
tournament in San Diego over the last weekend. The
Alliance won two matches and lost one. The field was
on Coronado Island at the local high school stadium.

of the Boys U17 Alliance team in the Real California
Tournament. They played U18 and U19 teams, lost two
and won one game. Enjoy. Scott

Alliance wins Condor Tournament

The boys NPSC U16 Alliance won the Condors Fun in the
Sun tournament in San Luis Obispo over the weekend of
June 23 and 24th. The scores were 1-0, 1-1, 8-0 and
7-0. The tie was with Bakersfield Gunners, a Silver
Elite team. The Gunners and Alliance both ended the
tournament with 31 points, but the Alliance won on
the tiebreaker rule of fewest goals allowed - one
versus two. The matches were at Nipomo High School.
Action in first game Sunday morning against Fusion.

The Newbury Park Scocer Club Alliance boys U16 team
played in the Camarillo Wings tournament over the
weekend of June 9-10th, 2007. The Alliance went 1-2-1
in the tournament with scores of 2-3. 0-1, 0-0 and
2-1. They ended up in 5th place. The competition was
so close that only two additional goals over the 4
games could have meant first place.

Alliance Wins CVU Tournament

The Newbury Park Scocer Club Alliance won the Conejo
Valley United tournament U16B bracket yesterday. The
NPSC Alliance went 2-1 in the prelim games and then
won the final 1-0. Nick Harrison scored the only goal
in the finals match against FCI United of Diamond
Bar. FCI United had beaten the Alliance 2-1 in a
prelim game on Saturday.

Alliance Wins Tournament

The U16B NPSC Alliance won the 2007 Chivas Simi
Valley Invitational Cup with a 2-0-1 record. The tie
was against Apex Boys 90 Futbolistas. Nick Harrison
had a good weekend with three goals - one in each
game. Scores were 2-0, 1-1, 2-1.
